MULTI:
When playing a Super Audio CD disc, the multi-channel area
will be played back with priority.
STEREO (Factory default):
When playing a Super Audio CD disc, the stereo area will be
played back with priority.
When playing back a disc that does not have a selected
area/layer, another area/layer will be played back
automatically.
CD:
When playing a Super Audio CD disc, the CD layer will be
played back with priority.
When playing Dolby Digital / DTS surround DVDs or 96 kHz
linear PCM DVDs on the S-301, be sure to set “DIGITAL
OUT” to “NORMAL” and “LPCM (44.1 kHz/48 kHz)” to
“OFF”.
When and only when you want to output the signals of the
Dolby Digital / DTS surround DVD being played on the S-301
to a digital PCM components, set “DIGITAL OUT” to
“PCM”.
With this setting, DVDs cannot be played on the S-301 in the
Dolby Digital / DTS surround mode. (The surround mode is
set to the mode in which PCM 2-channel signals can be
played.)
When and only when you want to make a digital recording
of the signals of a 48 kHz/20-bit/24-bit or 96 kHz linear PCM
DVD being played on the S-301 onto a digital recorder, set
the “LPCM (44.1 kHz/48 kHz)” to “ON”.
With this setting it is not possible to decode and play 48
kHz/20-bit/24-bit or 96 kHz linear PCM signals on the S-301
during recording. (Decoding and playback is in 48 kHz/16-bit
linear PCM format.)
When “LPCM (44.1 kHz/48 kHz)” is selected:
Press the CURSOR
or

button to select the
desired setting item, then press the ENTER

ON:
DVDs that were recorded with linear PCM 48 kHz/20/24 bit
and 96 kHz modes are all converted to 48 kHz/16 bits. Make
this selection at the time of digital recording.
OFF (Factory default):
Make the selection when playing back to a decoder DVDs that
were recorded with this unit using linear PCM 48 kHz/20/24
bit and 96 kHz modes. Note that DVDs with Copyright
Protection are converted to 48 kHz/16 bits and played back.
The same signal is output from the digital output terminals.
When “AUDIO DELAY” is selected:

0 ~ 200mSEC (Factory default 0mSEC) :
When watching a DVD or other video source, the picture on the
monitor may seem delayed with respect to the sound. In this
case, adjust the audio delay to delay the sound and synchronize
it with the picture.
The audio delay setting is stored separately for each input
source.
With a movie source, for example, adjust so that the
movement of the actor‘s lips is synchronized with the sound.
The audio delay setting does not apply when playing in the
analog input and stereo mode (DIRECT ON).

the setting.
The next screen in the “SETUP” menu screen appears.
OFF (Factory default):
Set to “OFF” to turn this function off.
LOW, MID, HIGH:
This parameter adjusts the dynamic range of the Dolby Digital or
DTS sound. When listening with the volume turned relatively
low, at night for example, set this to the “HIGH” side to lower
the peak of the sound and amplify the quieter sounds, narrowing
the dynamic range and making the sound easier to listen to.
With DTS source, only displayed for sources compatible with
dynamic range compression.
