During playback of the DVD recorded in Linear PCM of 48 kHz or 96kHz,
digital audio converted to 48 kHz/16 bit is output.
(Digital output of PCM audio is restricted to 48 kHz/16 bit or below for
copyright protection.
r When Dolby Digital is selected
1. Bitstream (Factory default) (NOTE 1 )
Dolby Digital bitstream (1 ch - 3/2.1 ch) is output during playback of the
DVD recorded in the Dolby Digital.
Select this setting when the player is connected to the Dolby Digital
decoder.
2. PCM
Digital audio converted to PCM (2ch) of 48 kHz/16 bit is output during
playback of the DVD recorded in the Dolby Digital.
t When DTS Digital Surround is selected
1. PCM (Factory default)
When you have connected a unit that does not have a built-in DTS
decoder.
2. Bitstream
DTS bitstream is output during playback of the DVD recorded in DTS.
Select this setting when the player is connected to the DTS decoder.
y When D. Range Compression is selected
1. Off (Factory default)
Select this for the standard range.
2. On
Select this to achieve powerful sound even when the volume is low.
This setting is suited for watching DVDs late at night with the volume
low. (This setting is only valid for DVDs recorded in Dolby Digital.)
u When Audio during search is selected
1. On (Factory default)
Select this to output sound during the search operation in speed 1.
2. Off
Select this to turn off the sound during the search operation in speed 1.
Recommended Audio settings
The optimum digital output setting depends on the type of component connected to the digital audio output connector.

NOTES:
1. When connecting an amplifier (with an optical/coaxial digital input connector) which does not contain the Dolby Digital or dts decoder, be sure
to select PCM at the Dolby Digital and PCM at the dts. If Bitstream is selected, any attempt to play DVD may cause such a high
level of noise that it may be harmful to your ears and damage your speakers.
2. Audio output from the players audio output connectors is converted to 48 kHz as well as audio from the digital audio output connector.
To enjoy high quality sound at 96 kHz, connect the amplifier or decoder directly to the audio output connectors, not to the digital audio output
connector. (Select No at the PCM Down Conversion.)
